This robe is a great option for people wanting “real” Harry Potter merchandise/costume stuff but not for a lot of money. Though the robe isn’t the highest quality piece of craftsmanship (many loose threads and such), the details are accurate enough to create a convincing Harry Potter costume. Personally, I used it to be a student from Ravenclaw for Halloween and just covered up the burgundy hood lining and Gryffindor patch with a blue and silver scarf, and it worked just fine. I would recommend this robe to anyone looking to complete a Harry Potter (or any Hogwarts) look without spending a ton of money.

Ok, so let me review the bug first, then my giggle at the price on this page…

We got this for my son….it’s intended for a christmas gift, so no I have opinions to post from my four year old…BUT my hubby and I are like big kids..lol. And this thing is the real deal, it does exactly what it says. While it runs around, at very high speeds I should mention, it flips itself over, easily rights itself again and it’s almost CREEPY how much like an actual bug it looks!!! The batteries for this are the cheap LR44(or the ones that substitute as the same thing, /8 at a dollar store that’s local to me). The colors are vibrant, they work well ONLY on hard surfaces (we tried both our couch and carpet), and it runs well off the given battery included already installed. I highly recommend it to parents and people with cats.

NOW…to giggling over amazon’s price…I paid 7.99 minus a coupon, so really at a very well known toy store (that make it clear enough?)…and it’s not like these things were flying off the shelf, I picked this up not even two weeks ago, on the last day of the sales week that they were in the flyer there. I live in a very popular region of my state and still had no problems getting there. So check your local TRU before ordering here…save yourself 4 bucks!

Sometimes I get more excited about a toy than my kids. I saw this online and watched a lot of videos on YouTube. I could not help but to get myself one.

The main mechanics in this toy is the vibrating motion. But that is not the amazing part, this toy moves like a real bug. It goes forward and turns depending on the terrain. No problem if it bumps into walls, it just turn and just keep on going and going. Even if you lay it on its back, it just picks up itself like a cat. It just won’t run on carpet though. Battery included. Made in China.

There are so many creative things you can do. We built a Duplo obstacles with tunnels, and a labyrinth of puzzles. It just goes to every niche and nooks it can get where it feets bring him. If you put it on the floor, it just runs around everywhere, goes in and out of furniture. My 5-yr-old son even put it inside a box of cereal when I was not looking. I have to dig deep to find it as it burrowed itself into it. Tons of fun. My son now carries it everywhere like a real pet.

The feet and the upper part of the bug are made of rubber. It has 12 legs, 6 on each side. It looks very durable unless somebody intentionally steps on it like a roach. The lower part of the body where it houses a single AG13 button battery is made of hard plastic. The on and off switch is also located there. My son is playing with this almost 2 days nonstop and I am surprised that the battery still going strong. I already ordered a set of 20 batteries for less than three dollars from Amazon.

The HEXBUG Nano is a super cool robotic toy that easily entertains both children and adults. These little robots are small but wickedly fast. My husband and I were pitting them against each other and I felt like a kid again. We were so engrossed in our competition that before I knew it, an hour had passed. It was fun to watch them and see how they react to different objects. I kept wishing that they would spring to life and start talking. Maybe I like the Transformers movies a little too much… I had a great time playing with these and I think they would make an excellent Christmas present.

The Prince of Persia Sands of Time Dagger Replica is a great replica, and a very fun toy to use as well. The detail is actually surprisingly good, and the fact that the handle actually has sand in it is great. The Dagger also has a good length and an amazing handle. The detail in the Dagger like I said is great. The markings on the blade are great (note that the blade is not made of metal, IT IS MADE OF VINYL) and the handle is just superb. There is also the top jewel on the top of the dagger, and when you press it, the top lights up kind of like in the movie. It is a nice feature and reminds you that this is a dagger to turn back time. The dagger also has sand in the handle and when you flip the dagger, is moves with the direction, like a fast moving hour glass. Don’t Break the Bottle, wine caddy edition is a wonderfully polished and challenging way to give a gift of vino. This year I gave a bottle of Christmas wine to my mother. After the delight of opening the present wore off the realization dawned that there was a bit more work to be done to get at the bottle. Now even a few days after Christmas I still call to ask if she is enjoying a glass of her wine yet. The puzzle is rather simple but with a complexity that is just right for general gift giving. The caddy looks great, is sturdy and makes a excellent display for your favorite bottle. The caddy holds regular bottles of wine but if there is too much variation on the shape of the bottle it may not fit. While shopping I recommend taking the caddy with you if you are looking at different shapes and sizes of bottles to be sure it fits. Also if you want to put in something of a non-alcoholic variety many types of sparkling juice would fit as well. This is a good idea but what you cant really tell from the pictures is that the only puzzle part of the contraption (for lack of a better word) is the string with the rings. I thought the whole thing was a puzzle like the old iron ones I used to have. Good idea but if you want something that will really puzzle them I would go for a different model. On the plus side it looked really nice when we brought it to dinner and put it on the table and the perplexed look on our friends faces were great!

This is a great toy for our 4 year old. However, they could have supplied extra screws and nuts in case they get lost. My son built the ATV right out of the box and used every single screw and nut. This is bad since they work themselves loose and fall off if he plays with it for very long. We have to be extra vigilant to keep an eye on the parts. As another post said, the headlight eyes pop off all of the time, so much that we just remove them and put them away. Other than those issues, it’s a good learning toy.

I bought this erector set for my son for Christmas. He just turned five years old and loves to build. He had to have help reading the instruction booklet and needed help to put it together. I think he will catch on and be able to construct by himself once he gets a little older. He was very excited to make the four-wheeler and asked when he could make another. Your Child Will Feel Like a Star
We really liked how the software uses your child’s sign-in name in the classroom in various ways. For example, there’s a sign in the classroom that says “Star of the Day” and your child’s name is on it. We also especially liked the art and music centers, which will inspire your children to creative heights. In the art center, you have a huge variety of colors and virtual art implements to use, as well as “stamps” and backgrounds that your child is sure to love. In the music center, children will learn about different instruments and play them in combination with all (or none) of the other included instruments. The clear and colorful (but not cloying) graphics are another high point of this game.

In general, Computer Cool School is very thoughtfully designed, enabling kids to navigate a wide range of play options with a few simple touches of a button. Our only complaint was that we couldn’t find a way to change the volume settings once we’d entered the game. In order to change the volume, we had to back out of the game and reset the parental controls.

There is a short learning curve for figuring out how to navigate through the centers, but once you know how, it’s easy to do. Your child will be up and running in no time, having fun and learning at the same time.

We have tried a few ‘early computer learning toys’ and found them wanting. This is the first one I have seen that is properly interactive, bug free, and well built.

My kid is only 2, so he is officially too young. But frankly, he has mastered the paint part of it already; he is quickly learning the rest.

A few technical points:

1. Yes, its like a USB keyboard but it does not act as a keyboard if the software is not running. So, the kid is not going to be able to mess with your PC outside of the software–a good thing. The software auto-launches and closes with the on-keyboard “power button” so the kid can start it up without help. My kid is 2 yrs old and learned that fast.

2. The tablet is like a tablet, not a mouse. Its position on the screen is absolute rather than relative. It might take the adult (me) a bit to get used to. My kid finds it easy, but he doesn’t have 20 years of habit to overcome .

3. The docs are evasive about where the kids drawings are saved. Here is the answer for Windows XP users:

The ‘Application Data’ directory is normally hidden. Substitute ‘User0′ with the relative position on the log in screen. The files are regular .png graphics files. Fair warning: don’t change these files. The software won’t expect that. This is simply a hint for making a copy of them to email to friend/grandparents .

If there is any downside to this thing, it is that it contains a limited amount of content. The kid hasn’t explored all of it yet, but I suspect I’ll end up buying the software expansions.

FOLLOW-UP: A few friends of mine have tried running this product with Windows Vista. Very buggy. I only now recommend this for XP users. Typical of many toy manufacturers, they simply don’t get software. It is not a “make once and forget about it” thing. You have to keep and plan for updates as the industry changes. The price they sell it to distributors for should account for those future costs.

I bought this when it was first released for my 2 1/2 year old. I hooked it up to my old Dell with Windows XP (this is not Mac compatible – and I converted to iMac in Dec). I bought the additional Dora & Diego software, and the Clifford software will be installed on her 3rd birthday in 10 days.

She LOVES this thing! I LOVE THIS THING! It keeps her busy, and she easily mastered all the navigating. The first month we had it, the old Dell had no sound – she still managed to use it and enjoy it in silence. Now, I almost wish I hadn’t gotten the sound fixed! HA!

I’ll definitely purchase the additional software to keep the variety in the activities.

The only problems I’ve encountered: sometimes a warning pops up that the keyboard cannot be detected. I just unplug it and plug it back in. Problem fixed. The cards that are the templates for writing are very slick and impossible to stack neatly – get a small basket or something for them.

I’ve found it quite durable.

The best feature for parents is that it requires a password to exit the program, so if you install this on your main computer, the child cannot get out of the Cool School program and into your computer! Brilliant!

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter and although she enjoys playing it, I really question the educational value. There are different subjects for her to explore, but the product is not really teaching her anything substantial. We have a lot of Leapfrog products and I have to say that this product does not teach her anywhere near as much as those do. Some of the product is hard to use as well – the letter writing part seems like a great idea but in reality it is next to impossible to actually recreate the letters and not have them look like disjointed pointy things (that look nothing like the actual letters). My daughter got pretty frustrated with that activity and now doesn’t even try that one anymore.

My niece has the ClickStart from Leapfrog and now I’m wishing I’d bought that instead – it’s really helped her learn how to spell 3-letter words and it’s great that there’s so much focus on computer skils too (another thing the Cool School does not do).

All in all, definitely not worth my $[...].

I love this puzzle! It’s beautiful, the pieces fit perfectly, and it is easy for my daughter to figure out. The large knobs make the pieces easy to grasp, and the fact that the picture is painted on the piece and on the board makes it easy to match the puzzle pieces. My daughter plays with it all the time, and it’s one of her favorite puzzles. The pieces are big too, so they’re easy to keep track of, unlike smaller puzzle pieces that get lost or sucked up in the vacuum.

The only thing I found is that it is important to watch your child play with the puzzle until they’re out of the “gnawing” stage. My daughter gnawed off the top picture of the chicken and sheep so that makes me sad since the painting is done by hand, and the pictures are so nice. So now I can only let her play with it supervised, until she stops gnawing everything in sight.

The description of this puzzle says, “solid wood” It’s not! It’s 2 layers of composite board glued to plywood. The fibers easily scrape off along the edges and can be ingested by your child. My daughter (13 months) received this toy as a present and really loved playing with it. It’s very educational and I loved the wood structure of it. But in just a couple of days the back of the main wood frame started peeling leaving raw edges on the surface and sides. Just what you would need to get a splinter. Sure, a huge bucket full of letters and numbers is educational, but this particular bucket is a bad buy. The magnets are not very strong at all. And to make it worse, no one really thought of balance when designing this set of letters and numbers. Even with magnets, gravity still works. When you try to place a letter correctly, the low grade magnets and the weight of the plastic turn the letter on it’s side. if you’re very lucky, the magnet will stay there and just hang wrong. However, most of the letters just slide down to the floor. Maybe I just got a bad set; i don’t know. what I do know is that less than half of the letters in the bucket would attract to the surface. and less than half of those would actually stay in place and upright. Most of them just end up on the floor. Buyer beware. keep your receipt.

Just got mine in the mail.

Very nice quality dice. Colorful and easily recognizable icons. The icons are “etched” deeply into the die, making the dice durable and long lasting.

The dice container consist of a simple cardboard tube, with removable plastic end caps. Not very good at all. But it’s functional enough for carrying the dice around, and can be used to shake up the dice.

Game instructions are simple and easy to understand.

I had first seen “Zombie Dice” as a free iPhone App. The iPhone app was fun to play, and had high quality graphics and standards. After playing the iPhone version for awhile, I decided to order the actual dice version.

I’d take a few points off for the cardboard tube, but the actual dice and game itself are excellent. Excellent purchase.

Have fun with your Zombie friends!

Roll the dice to try to eat the brains of as many victims as you can. Some of the humans will run away, and some of them will have shotguns. BLAM! If you get blasted three times, you lose all the brains you ate in that round. If you are a careful and cautious zombie, you will stop before you get blasted thrice, and keep your tasty brains! Eat 13 brains, and you win! Yum!

Zombie Dice is fast-paced, fun, and easy to play for your whole family. It’s on my must-have list to have for the zombie apocalypse. After all, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!

This disc is too much fun. My family has a great time with this disc every time we use one. It does not take much to send this disc flying FAR so you have to be careful where you’re aiming. We learned the hard way that you should avoid playing near water as it carries with the wind and goes and GOES… Everyone should have one of these!

I bought an Aerobie flying ring about 7 years ago, and it was unbelievably fun. In the hands of a skilled thrower, these things fly straight and true, and FAR. My friend and I stood on opposite corners of two adjacent CANADIAN football fields, and we were frequently throwing the ring over each other’s heads!However, when I bought a new one earlier this summer, I was disappointed. The black plastic core is very brittle. After only a couple of tosses, after it had flown into the ground or a fence roughly (which is inevitable), the black ring which acts as the ring’s “backbone” broke in several places. While the ring still flies as if it was intact, this makes the ring impossible to adjust. It should be noted that the Aerobie ring I bought years ago was orange in color, and the new one was pink (I think the new one is a “Pro” version or some such thing). If you can find the regular orange ring, it should be fine.

This is by far the best frisbee I know of. One little warning to anyone who has never owned or thrown an Aerobie before: these things fly FAR. I mean FAR. Whenever I throw it with someone who has never thrown it before, I literally train them to throw it softly because even a soft throw will make one of these things travel 100ft. Another reason I train people is because I’ve had 2 of these in the past and I’ve lost both of them. And I didn’t throw either one when it got lost. People see this thing and think it’s just another standard frisbee, so they throw it as hard as they can and it gets lost.

I have adopted a unique throwing method that makes flights straighter and more accurate, but slightly harder to throw long distances. I kind of fling it off of my index finger (I’m right handed). I throw my wrist forward and then right when it’s about to fly off my finger I snap my wrist back. It’s easier to show it than describe it. Maybe I’ll submit a video review of this method. The snapping my wrist back part kind of evolved naturally if you will. I didn’t think of the idea of doing it. I started throwing my wrist forward and before I knew it I was snapping it back.

Anyway, this frisbee can be kind of tricky to learn to throw straight because it’s a ring. I learned it pretty quickly. This thing offers a good workout if you throw it hard. If you throw it hard, I strongly recommend that you and your throwing partner are in a BIG field. To put that in context, a football field is too small. Aerobie’s travel way farther than any standard frisbee disk.

I haven’t had any issues with the backbone breaking or cracking or anything like that. The only thing I noticed is they are kind of tricky to catch at first because the frisbee hits your hand and bounces off of it. I also have a method for catching it that mayble I’ll make a video of and post.

A few more things. Don’t throw an Aerobie near water unless you can throw it very accuratly. As it says on the frisbee itself, Aerobie’s don’t float. Another thing is an Aerobie won’t be too likely to damage something that it hits if you throw it inaccurately because it’ll bounce harmlessly off most things.

Overall, this is a very good frisbee. Just remember, it flies very FAR. If you don’t believe the thing about the Guiness World Record for farthest thrown object, just throw it hard once and you will instantly believe it.

This gets great marks for cuteness and appeal, however it falls short when played with. The yellow box is unnecessarily large and thus cumbersome to handle, especially for kids who are going to be most interested in playing with it. The lid simply rests on top, it does not fit on so it takes two hands to hold the lid onto the box while shaking for a roll. We very quickly stopped using the lid during play, but then it was hard for the kids’ hands to cover the large box opening on top. With or without the lid on, shaking the dice in the box is uncomfortably loud and shrill. Even my kids winced and complained. The box is made of a hard shiney plastic. Older Yahtzee cups are made of a plastic that is somewhat more pilable which helped to muffle the rattle of the dice. We stuffed paper towels in the bottom of the box to try to deaden the racket, but it helped only a little bit. You also have to find some type of box to roll the dice into because the packaging of this item does not lend itself to being used for such. The score pad is quite small (with very small print too) and each sheet has to be torn off and unfolded to write on it. It is so small because it is intended for you to curve the whole folded pad in a semicircle to stuff it into the box for storage. So, not only are your score sheets folded in half, but they are also curly. The block will only fit one of those useless “mini golf” type short pencils. I guess you better have your pocket knife handy or a sharpener to chisel a pencil tip in case of breakage! As I said, this is a very cute item, but even my 9 and 10 year old Mario loving boys totally prefer to use the zip case travel Yahtzee version. That version has a built in dice arena, padded small easy to handle shaker cup and nifty little independent dice cube holders. There is also a sleeve to hold a nice big flat Yahtzee pad and full size retractable pencil. The zip close feature is perfect to keep all the parts at the ready for grab and go convienence.

Well if you are a Super Mario collector and don’t plan to actually play with this -this is a great item.

If however, you simply have a Super Mario fan in the house and really want to play Yahtzee with it I have some suggestions. First off, I have to give it some credit – it is very cute and the pictures made it easy and interesting for my 5 year old to play Yahtzee on his own (without being on a team with mom or dad).

IF you decide to actually play with it, two recommendations:

1) First thing you MUST do before using the dice is coat them with clear nail polish or something similar. We used the set about 3-5 times a week (popular game in our house) for less than a month and pretty much the entire picture wore off every side of every dice. I called the company about the problem and to their credit, they did send me a new set right away (which I coated before we played again – no problems since).

2) As the other reviewer stated, the score sheets are so small that they are almost unreadable. I simply put one on my printer and enlarged it by 100% and made a bunch of copies.
